Reporting Tax FraudTax evasion and fraud hurts everyone.If you suspect that an individual or a company is evading taxes or committing fraud, you should report this to the authorities.You may receive a reward for your tip; however, not all taxing authorities offer rewards.

Follow these steps to report tax evasion and fraud:

1) Collect as much information as possible about the person or business that you suspect of tax evasion.Include names, addresses, taxpayer identification numbers, the type of fraud involved, how many years the fraud has been happening, the amount of money involved, and how you became aware of this fraud.

2) Decide if you want to remain anonymous.You will be encouraged to identify yourself, but it is not required in order to report tax evasion.Your identity will be protected regardless of your decision, and either way you would still be eligible for a reward if one is offered.

3) Fill out IRS Form #3949-A and mail it to:
Internal Revenue Service
Fresno, CA 93888

If you do not wish to use Form 3949-A, send a letter to the above address.

4) Be prepared to hear nothing.Your report may be acknowledged, but because of confidentiality laws, most agencies are prohibited from releasing any information about their investigations
